We always hear (or maybe it’s just me) that in the church we need to have it all together. There is no such thing as a bad day! How could there be? Jesus equals joy all of the time, right? Then life happens, events happen that we can not control. Sometimes it is just plain hard to be joyful. It takes work. One thing I have learned in life is that we are going to have days it is easy to be overfilled with joy, and others were it feels like we are paddling up waves from a tsunami.
So what do we do in those time joy becomes hard to obtain? I think it is wise to keep a mental track of things that bring us joy. Whether that is worship music, coloring (yes, adult coloring is now a thing), reading the word (best place to start, right), surrounding yourself with believers who will point you to Christ, make lists of things your are thankful for, go outside, don’t sit in front of a screen, ect, ect. I know, I know, easier said than done. It goes for me as well my friend.
Sometimes I truly believe the enemy knows our weak points, and likes to poke a prod at them. Which makes complete sense knowing him. It fits him quite well. I think sometimes we need to recognize it. I also wonder if the enemy knows our personalities and what would rub us raw the easiest. Think about it? If he knows our weak points, it would be to pour some salt into that wound. Then I remember “But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” 1 Cor. 15:57 or “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.” John 10:10
I think it is important we remember that we are going to have days that are filled with joy and days that we are longing for that joy.
So I am curious. What do you do when your joy is in a funk?
